So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you’d actually want to read.

Cover Talk: This cover is so cool! It catches everyone's eyes! And I'm not even kidding. Even people who didn't know about Pride and Prejudice asked me what this book was about because the cover caught their eye.

My Thoughts: Wow! I loved this book! I was not expecting to, I mean I was excited about reading it but then I was also nervous that what if this turns out to be a disaster. But it didn't! I know some of you might not agree with me and believe me I love Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice but this book wasn't that bad.

The zombie twist in the story was pretty interesting. And it was very well presented, in my opinion. I really enjoyed reading it. I found it funny how everyone was so used to people dying because of zombies that they didn't mind much when someone died in front of them. In fact, they were pretty cool about it.

The changes in the story, like the thing about Charlotte and Lady Catherine, they were all very interesting variations and gave the book it's own identity instead of being a retelling with very little original content.

My favorite part was reading those famous dialogues changed into something funny and zombie-related. Here are some of my favorites:

"Have your ninjas left you?"
"We never had any ninjas."
"No ninjas! How was that possible? Five daughters brought up at home without any ninjas! I never heard of such a thing. You mother must have been quite a slave to your safety."

"You are mistaken, Mr. Darcy, if you suppose that the mode of your declaration affected me in any other way, than as it spared the slightest grief which I might have felt in beheading you, had you behaved in a more gentlemanlike manner."

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it if you are in the mood of reading something different. I think you will enjoy this if you have read Pride and Prejudice and if you read this one with an open mind and not with the intention of comparing and analysing it.

  1. I think this is one of the books that some people absolutely love, and others hate because the zombie twist is just too weird. I was thinking of giving it a try, and your review convinced me it's worth it. For some reason, it gives me the impression that it's not a book that has to be taken too seriously.... just enjoyed.
