Review of Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen

Recently I read a book "FLIPPED" by Wendelin Van Draanen. Then I came to know by a friend that there is also a movie based on the book. So I decided to watch that too. In this post I'll give the review of both the book and the movie.

I really liked the book. I love how it was written with the perspectives of both Bryce and Juliana. It is not a story I'll remember for the rest of my life but there were some things from the book that I will remember. Like the bit about the whole being greater than the sum of it's part and when Bryce's grandfather tells Juli - and I quote - "Get beyond his eyes and his smile and the sheen of his hair-look at what's really there." These little messages about life in this book were memorable and I love the way they were presented. I like the characters in the book, especially the main ones (i.e Juli & Bryce). I also liked Bryce's grandfather a lot. I loved how Bryce's father was an example of people who consider themselves to be superior than others but really deep down they are very shallow and not that great at all. I liked the sweet young love in this novel and I think it was portrayed very beautifully. All over I'll give the book a 7 out of 10. I'll recommend this book for YA (Young Adult) readers of around 12-14 years of age.

I think the movie captured the theme of the book and I enjoyed watching it very much. I always love movie versions of books because then I can see the story in action. I think the actors portrayed the characters very well. Overall I really liked the movie. It's a good family movie. I'm not let down because the movie is very much like the movie with a few little changes here and there to make the movie short. The only scenes which were deleted were the ones which were not really needed for the movie to be complete.

What I didn't like was that they didn't add a kiss in the end. I think there should've been a kiss in the end. The story started by Juli thinking she was about to have her first kiss from Bryce but she didn't get it. I think if the story would've ended with a kiss it would've been like putting  cherry on top of a cake to finish it all up. Because of this reason I felt that the story was unfinished.
